This two-day (two Saturdays) workshop will include a traditional approach of hand coiling clay and other organic materials in a bowl. Using the techniques and building methods of the Indigenous tribes of New Mexico, the student will gain skills to hand-coil a water jar without a pottery wheel and shape the clay using limited tools and using organic material to build, burnish, and paint.

The first day will consist of learning the "Pueblo Perspective" of the appreciation of clay and building the piece. The second day will consist of learning about the design process, burnishing and painting the pottery. Pieces will be ready to be fired the second day and pieces can be picked up at a later time after kiln firing.

My name is Josiah Concho. My pronouns are He/Him/His and I identify as an Indigenous artist from the State of New Mexico. I belong to two beautiful tribes in the Southwest, known as the Pueblo of Acoma and Navajo Nation. My goal for teaching this class is to share my tribal perspective and appreciation of clay and pottery. I believe sharing this perspective will give value to not only clay but to the natural environment all around us.

Workshop will be in-person hosted at Saltstone Ceramics in the Wallingford Neighborhood of Seattle, and will include a designated break during the class.

This workshop is suitable for all skill levels, but recommended for students 15 years and older. Materials and firing are included in the class fee.

Workshop registration is time/class-specific and is non-refundable. If giving as a gift, please provide the contact information for the recipient in the purchase form. At this time masks are optional for students and customers.

Regular price $375.00
