Neriage Vases on the Wheel with Saori Matsushita, October 7th from 12-3pm
Are you looking to expand your wheel throwing techniques? Curious about throwing with colorful clay? This workshop teaches the decorating technique by Neriage using the potter's wheel to create beautiful swirling and spiraling patterns on clay using the wheel.
The Japanese neriage technique is slightly different from agateware or marbled clay techniques. Participants will use a minimum of two colors of clay and learn to form a vase with the guidance of Saori Matsushita. You will then trim the pieces during the workshop to reveal the secret swirled finish.
Throwing experience is necessary, as your instructor isn't teaching basic throwing techniques but more clay techniques that are used to expand your current wheel throwing skills.
I'm a ceramic artist from Japan who specializes in Nerikomi and Neriage techniques. I discovered the passion for ceramics while studying contemporary sculpture at art college and have been working as a ceramic artist since 2014.
This Workshop will be in-person hosted at Saltstone Ceramics in the Wallingford Neighborhood of Seattle. No prior clay experience needed as this workshop will cater to all skill levels.
Workshop registration is time/class-specific and is non-refundable. We no longer provide refunds for COVID-19. If you can't attend your workshop, we encourage you to give your spot to a friend.
