Spikey Hand-Built Planters with Jude Mortensen, Saturday February 4th 2023, 12pm-3pm
In this workshop students will learn the pinch pot method to sculpt some curvy planters! Your instructor, local artist Jude Mortensen, will teach you how to make the structure of a planter pot in addition to their favorite surface decoration, adding spikes onto the clay as an added sensory experience.
At the end of the workshop you should find yourself having learned the basic methods of pinching, scoring, and attaching to create your very own prickly piece of pottery.
Workshop will be in-person hosted at Saltstone Ceramics in the Wallingford Neighborhood of Seattle.
This workshop is appropriate for all levels of experience with clay and is open to students 15 and older.
The materials will be provided on-site. All firing services are include in cost, and instructor will glaze your pieces in a clear for you.
Jude is a 3d artist that centers their work around the concept of "comfort within discomfort". As queer person they have spent time searching for security and contentment in an otherwise messy environment, and so they try to bring out the same energy through their teaching and through their work. Along with ceramics, Jude works in mixed media using metals, paper, and plaster alongside clay. Other themes you can find in their work often focus on mental health and neurodivergence and the way comfort and discomfort so heavily intersect. Outside of work you can find them spoiling their cat and making different coffee recipes they find online.
Workshop registration is time/class-specific and is non-refundable. We no longer provide refunds for COVID-19. If you can't attend your workshop, we encourage you to give your spot to a friend.
If giving as a gift, please provide the contact information for the recipient in the purchase form.
