Teen Wheel Throwing with Maria Ashkin, 12/09/23

Workshop Hosted December 9th, 12-3pm

Are you interested in getting your hands muddy and learning the basics of wheel thrown pottery? This class will offer adolescents a great opportunity to practice creating their own 3D works of art on the pottery wheel. The pottery wheel is a great way for youth to use art as a way to express themselves.

This whole-body creative effort will give your teen an engaging and exciting new skill that will keep them occupied for the weekend. Students will create a final piece that we will fire and finish for them.

This workshop is suitable for all skill levels, but recommended for students 12-16 years old. This Workshop will be in-person hosted at Saltstone Ceramics in the Wallingford Neighborhood of Seattle. No prior clay experience needed as this workshop will cater to all skill levels. The materials will be provided on-site. All firing services are included in cost, and the studio will glaze your pieces in a clear for you.

Maria is a sculptor, printmaker, photographer, and ceramic artist hailing from the clay-caked deserts of New Mexico. She is a certificated public school art teacher, long-time experiential educator, and critical scholar with a masters in social justice education. In each class she teaches, she brings undeniable spunk and a dedication to listening to and welcoming her students. In her own clay practice, she draws inspiration from printmaking techniques, Raku, and the inimitable colors and forms of the land that raised her. She also loves 90s R&B, snorkeling, foraging for fungi and orchids, eating bagels, speaking Spanish, and doubling over with laughter.
