Are you a new or aspiring kiln owner? Curious about the more technical side of ceramics? Learn the basics of kiln loading, firing, and maintenance in this hands-on Electric Kilns 101 workshop! If you’ve ever wondered what the heck happens inside a kiln and/or how to better control your firing results, this class is for you.

We will cover:

Proper kiln set-up and safety measures
Anatomy of an electric kiln
Basics of pyrometric cones and heatwork
How to load a kiln efficiently
Programming an electric kiln
Troubleshooting methods
Kiln care and maintenance
 

Bring your technical questions, a notebook and writing implement, and your desire to learn!

Workshop will be in-person hosted at Saltstone Ceramics in the Wallingford Neighborhood of Seattle.

This class is taught by Taylor Callaway (they/them), local ceramic artist and former Saltstone Ceramics studio technician. Taylor is a full-time pottery nerd and sells their work under the name Totally Shapes.
