Here's a little bit about myself, my name is Horacio Casillas i'm from the West Texas town of San Angelo I graduated with my MFA from the University of North Texas almost a year ago and I am currently the resident artist at The Epic in Grand Prairie, Texas. Many things motivate me to make art but the two main things are, the need for human connection through the rituals associated with functional pottery, and the desire to grow closer to God through the act of creating something beautiful. It took me a while to accept that my work had beauty, here's the short story about how it was revealed. It was my first year of Grad school and I was trimming away at the cups I'd made aiming for perfection as most artists do. All of a sudden the cup goes flying off the wheel and is altered by the corner of the table. That moment was a moment of growth, and realization that there is beauty in the imperfect and that perfection is unattainable. Ever since then I hit the bottom of my pots with a stick to altar them.
