Sculptural Arches with Jude Mortensen, November 11th, 12pm to 3pm
There's something really cute about a desert aesthetic in the PNW, and for the desert lovers it can be hard to find local work with that same appreciation. Which is why Jude wants to bring that heat to the rainy city of Seattle.
In this workshop students will make their own desert inspired clay arches. Jude will teach pinching and coiling techniques to create a closed-form sculpture using desert red clay. They will demonstrate their own personal tricks for creating a smooth exterior and some options for altering the piece for style or for function. In a few hours, you will make sculptural work for your own home.
Suitable for all skill levels but recommended for students 15 years and older. Materials and firing are included in the class fee.
This workshop is appropriate for all levels of experience with clay and is open to students 15 and older.
Jude is a trans ceramist artist and co-owner of Saltstone. They are inspired by neutral tones and touches of femininity to bring an air of gender euphoria to their work, which makes this workshop close to home. They come from southern California and have always found themselves drawn to the way coil arches bring peace to their practice.
Workshop registration is time/class-specific and is non-refundable. We no longer provide refunds for COVID-19. If you can't attend your workshop, we encourage you to give your spot to a friend.
