Hosted January 28th, 10am - 4pm with an hour break for lunch

Plates are one of the most challenging and satisfying pottery forms to create. Learn how to make hand-built plates from slabs.

Using templates, students will glean how to replicate the same form from one piece to the next. Instruction will include how to prepare your clay, how to roll perfectly even slabs (with or without a slab roller), tips for precise foot ring registration and advice on drying to prevent wrapping. Elevating the plates to the next level, we will consider how to harmonize form and surface in combination with underglaze decoration to create dynamic pieces that invite use.

Suitable for all skill levels but recommended for students 15 years and older. The materials will be provided on-site. All firing services are included in cost, and an instructor will glaze your pieces in a clear for you.

Materials to bring to class: (substitutes for starred* items will be offered in the studio)

Xacto knife with #11 blades
1” – 1.5” Hake Slip brush (2-3)
Various soft bristle brushes *
Mudtools red rib *
Sketchbook *
Apron
2 hand towels
