Katharine Dawn was born and raised in Western Washington, she attended the Evergreen State
college where she studied Law and Policy. After spending most of a decade working as a raft
guide and ski instructor in the Rocky Mountains, she returned to Seattle where she would
discover her passion for ceramics at North Seattle College in 2017. Currently Katharine works
as a teacher at Illuminated Clay in Tacoma, WA, a studio that offers free and sliding scale
ceramics classes to the BIPOC community. As a Lesbian Latinx woman, Katharine strives to
work with artists and communities that want to create equity in the ceramic art community
through providing more thoughtful and affordable access to classes and firing services.
Katharine is an organizer of the Rain or Shine community market, a market striving to prioritize
the BIPOC artist community in the PNW. Katharine strives to create functional pieces that bring
the user joy.
