Shepard Ceramics
Natalie Shepard is a ceramic artist from Tacoma making functional pots for the home and sculptural objects. Her work is fired predominately in atmospheric and wood kilns. These labor intensive processes demand attention to detail and direct connection to the pots throughout the firing process. The pots that do survive these intense firings tell their own story of fire, ash and air painted on the surfaces. She draws from her time spent in the mountains and on rivers in the northwest to inspire her body of work. Incorporating natural and wild materials such as sand, wood ash and wild clay, her work is raw and tactile.
