This sheepdog inspired landscape mug was handbuilt using Laguna Speckled Buff Clay, hand painted with varying brands of underglaze, sgraffito technique was used to carve back the outlines of the illustration as well as add texture to the mountains and grass, and legs to the sheep! After bisque firing, i painted the mug with black glaze, wiping back to leave it partially within the carved lines. The wiped back glaze also helped to smooth the texture of the raw clay/undergalze for a more pleasant experience for the user. The handle was pulled off the mug, and along with the interior- was glazed using a dipping glaze we call Cherish, which felt appropriate for the subject matter. The mug is a tribute to my handsome sheepdog, who sadly lives a plush life as a city dog instead of roaming fields of sheep through all weather conditions. The mug is approximately 5" tall, 3" wide at the top and 4" wide at the bottom. Including the handle, the mug is appx. 5" wide in the middle.
