Eva Conrad
Eva Conrad (she/they) was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Eva makes ceramics and paintings that straddle contemporary art and craft traditions; through an interest in the longevity of creating beyond necessity. They weave patterns in and out of their functional and sculptural ceramics and paintings repetitively as meditation on systems of being. Her work emerges in the world as a reflection on beautiful moments of attentive introspection, queer identity, intuitition and curious play amid seemingly rigid binary systems. Since living in Pittsburgh, community building has become a way to embody the values that their work holds and deepen the understanding of its place and purpose.
Some other notable accomplishments Eva has had over the past years include a residency and solo exhibition at Bunker Projects, embarking on the curatorial project, Hot House, which had its first exhibition in 2023 at Bunker Projects and manifested as an artist market at the Mattress Factory Museum in September 2024 and will have its second exhibition in Richmond, VA at Pamplemousse Gallery this coming fall. Conrad also completed the second season of a community project, Gay Clay Play Day, which offers a donation based communal learning environment for artists at all skill levels to become familiar with ceramics processes and advance through the collaborative community. While in North Carolina, she spent a year in residence at Nth Degree Gallery and Studios, and curated two group shows, had 2 solo exhibitions, participated in over a dozen group shows, and assisted her mentor Andréa Keys Connell in her studio practice. She has returned to Western North Carolina throughout her career to attend workshops at Penland School of Craft with Winnie Owens-Hart and Del Harrow, as well as volunteering for Penland's annual auction.
