Laura Jenels

My work spotlights simple joys by reimagining mundane objects as joyful paintings on functional pottery. Bright colors and playful imagery paired with satirically nonchalant and boldly feminine characters spark delightful inquisition. The vessel is the vehicle that carries my narrative. References and symbols significant to my experience as a bi-racial woman, construct identity and inspire my illustrations. I hope to create a narrative that invites the viewer to slow down daily rituals.

Laura has currently found herself based in Asheville, North Carolina, working out of her small studio downtown.
