Pedestal Bowls with Laura Skiles Bundy, July 27th, 1-4pm
The elegant form of an elevated vessel has been part of the rich and ancient story of ceramics throughout history and many cultures. A natural choice for a centerpiece or fruit bowl, these forms can also hold special significance as decorative or ritual objects.
In this workshop students will be guided through the process of handbuilding pedestal bowls using slabs, templates, and bisque molds. We will explore a variety of texture tools, and extruded coils to adorn your pots.
The workshop will end with a discussion about surface decoration options to compliment your work, and a brief demonstration on application of terra sigillata.

Handbuilding is my primary method of making work. My process is an ongoing exploration of forms and surfaces created by combining slabs, coils and unique textures. The designs that decorate my work are both improvised and personally symbolic; expressions of intentions, memories, and love for places in the natural world.
Suitable for all skill levels, but recommended for students 15 years and older. Materials and firing are included in the class fee.
This workshop will be in-person hosted at Saltstone Ceramics in the Wallingford neighborhood of Seattle.
