Making Mugs: 4 Day Intensive with Jem Tong, Nov 30th, Dec 3rd, 7th, and 10th from 6:30pm - 9:30pm

In this intensive, Jem will take students through shape exploration and enhanced throwing techniques. Students will begin by throwing various mugs with guidance on throwing multiples, using specialized tools, and employing production techniques. After selecting a shape, you’ll spend the rest of the session throwing 4-6 pieces that match the chosen shape. At the end of this class, students will have a set of beautiful and special mugs and a strengthened understanding in production pottery.

This hands-on intensive is designed for intermediate potters who are comfortable with centering and throwing a cylinder. If you plan to attend this workshop, prior experience is essential.

Hi! My name is Jem Tong. Pottery is my home medium but I enjoy dabbling in just about everything else. My personal work is mainly in clay instruments and moving, dynamic carvings. I have taught since 2022 in CA and WA, and been touching clay since 2014: I love sharing the grounding nature of shaping things with your own hands and meeting so many cool people that pottery attracts.

• This class is geared towards students who have previous wheel throwing experience.
  
• Our beautiful studio has just about everything you need, except for a simple set of pottery tools. Bring your own or purchase a simple kit from us on the first day of class.
• The first bag of clay is included in your class, after that each bag is sold separately.
• While we highly recommend that you attend all sessions in a series in order to get the most out of the class.
• Open studio access during gallery hours.
