This is a class for intermediate and advanced wheel throwers

Dive into the transformative art of creating spiky, textured ceramics. This hands-on workshop draws inspiration from Jude's personal journey with their spiky series, exploring the interplay between soft curvy forms, to bold striking spikes.

In this two day workshop, students will explore the dualities of comfort and discomfort, learning to design, throw, and alter pieces that provoke thought, invite touch, and challenge expectations. Students will throw multiple forms with different curves and shapes

  • Day 1 (4 hours): Throwing & Shaping Foundations 12pm - 4pm
  • Day 2 (3 hours): Alteration & Spiky Embellishments 12pm - 3pm

The pottery wheel will be used in this workshop. The materials will be provided on-site. All firing services are included in cost, and an instructor will glaze your pieces for you.

Skill Level:
Intermediate to advanced. Students should feel confident centering 3lbs and throwing a cylinder.

Message from the artist:

"As a 3D artist, I explore the delicate balance between comfort and discomfort, a duality that permeates our lives. My work is rooted in the understanding that while discomfort can be an unavoidable part of the human experience, learning to sit with it can foster resilience. In a world that often leaves us with little choice but to endure, my work offers me a safe space to practice this. Thus allowing the option to confront challenges in a setting removed from the immediate pressures of reality.

Through my art, I invite viewers and students alike to explore the spaces where comfort and discomfort meet, encouraging them to sit in that and understand why that discomfort exists." - Jude Mortensen
